Marseille is a beautiful seaside town in the south of France. The city is part of Provence, an historical province of southeastern France, and part of the Bouches-du-Rhône department, the most populous one of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
Marseille has a great history, which served as a basis for the impressing MuCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations).

Discover the apartment geographic location in relation to the beautiful touristic places surroundings. The picture below shows the main places to visit nearby : Mucem of course, the Palace of Pharo (Palais du Pharo), the typical Vallon des Auffes, the long boulevard of the Corniche Kennedy which overhangs the sea, the wonderful Catholic basilica Notre-Dame de la Garde which dominates the city, and the natural harbour of the Old Port (Vieux Port) at the end of the famous Canebière. And of course, enjoy the Catalans beach if you had plan to swim in the sea.

Shops and local shops around the apartment
Grocery stores and many small shops are available everywhere, for all tastes: restaurants for all budgets (we will give you the addresses), wine cellars, shops, and supermarkets. The nearest supermarket is a Carrefour Market a few steps from the apartment. You will also find, a few streets away, a Super U. You will be lacking nothing!
Transportation inside the city
Taxi stops are available in front of the apartment. However, public transport (bus, tram, metro) allows you to go anywhere in Marseille and beyond (Aix-en-Provence via shuttles for example) at a lower cost.
Less than one minute’ walk away from the apartment, the “place du 4 septembre” will provide you with access to many bus lines :
- Bus line 54
- Bus lines 82 and 82S
- Bus line 83
- Bus line 84
- Bus line 583
Most of these lines will take you to a subway station.
You can find all bus, metro en tram maps and itineraries, in english, on the RTM website Maps page (RTM, for “Régie des Transports Métropolitains“, is the public organization which provides transport in Marseille).
RTM also provides an excellent tool (in english) to tell you which public transport to use to get you from one point to another ! Just indicate your departure point and your arrival point, and the best route will be showing to you. You will be able to select some options, like “fastest route” or “with less changes”.

Feel free to visit RTM website in english : it contains a lot of information about transport in Marseille, like park-and-ride, water taxi, or Old Port (Vieux Port) Ferry Boat.
Finally, Marseille has a large network of Velib’, that is to say public bicycles available throughout the city thanks to stations distributed every 300 meters approximately. You will find all information about subscriptions, fees and stations on the official Marseille Bike System website (in english).
